As a registered drama therapist and licensed professional counselor, Mimi brings a creative, experiential approach to support clients in their treatment and recovery journeys.

She received her MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with specialization in Drama Therapy from Lesley University and holds an MFA in theatre directing from the University of Iowa. Prior to joining New Horizons, Mimi worked as an individual therapist at a private practice and as a program therapist at Cincinnati’s Eating Recovery Center.

In her work, Mimi uses drama therapy to engage the mind and body in the healing process. While the tools (including role, embodiment, story, projection, and play) come from theatre and the arts, the goals which can include emotional regulation, empathy and social connection, psychological flexibility, and self-attunement are rooted in psychotherapy.

Mimi particularly enjoys working with groups, understanding the healing that can happen within the drama therapy “playspace,” where inner experiences and commonalities can be expressed, shared, and witnessed, and the uniqueness of each participant celebrated. In addition to drama therapy, Mimi also draws inspiration from the other expressive arts (including art, writing, and movement) as well as narrative therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and dialectical behavior therapy.

Mimi has loved theatre since she was 13 and cast in a play, finding her voice and her community onstage and within the characters she played. She is thrilled to be using the transformative power of theatre to help people reconnect with their own innate creativity and their capacity to make meaningful change in their lives.
